Since 19 June 2026, any online store selling to consumers in France must let them withdraw from the contract online, through a button labelled « Renoncer au contrat ici » (withdraw from the contract here). We set it up on your Shopify store: the button, the flow and the acknowledgement of receipt.
Ordinance no. 2026-2 of 5 January 2026, new article L.221-21 of the French Consumer Code, in force since 19 June 2026. It applies to every store selling at a distance to consumers in France.
A free, easy-to-find feature labelled « Renoncer au contrat ici » or an equally clear wording.
Visible throughout the 14-day withdrawal period, not only at the time of the order.
A form identifying the customer, the order and the date, then a « Confirmer la rétractation » button.
Sent without delay, on a durable medium, with the date and time of the request.
Up to €75,000 for a company (legal entity).
12 months instead of 14 days. Without the feature, customers can withdraw up to a year after their purchase.
We check that your store uses Shopify's new customer accounts, which the flow requires. If not, the migration comes first.
Cancellation and return rules aligned with the legal period, market by market, and a timestamped acknowledgement.
The « Renoncer au contrat ici » link placed permanently on your store, with a page explaining the right, in your theme's style.
A complete run in real conditions: login, request, confirmation, receipt of the acknowledgement.
Yes, if you sell to consumers in France. The EU directive only covered financial services, but France extended the obligation to every distance contract with a consumer. Much English-language advice misses this.
No. Withdrawal is a right: the customer withdraws from the contract without giving a reason, and you can neither refuse it nor attach conditions to it. A return request follows your commercial rules. The law requires the right itself to be exercisable online.
Shopify provides the self-serve cancellation and return flow, but no dedicated button: the label, placement and settings are still up to you. Shopify itself states that its tools do not automatically make a store compliant.
If your store still uses legacy customer accounts, yes: Shopify's self-serve flow only works with the new ones. It is the first thing we check.
We deliver the withdrawal feature and its settings. Overall compliance, such as the information on the right of withdrawal in your terms of sale, is a matter for your lawyer.
A fixed price, quoted after a quick review of your store. The review itself is free.
Send us your store's address: we check what is already in place and tell you what is left to do.
